Join the Philathea Women’s Group on Saturday, November 15th from 10 to 2 for a special workday to put together “ugly quilts.” “Ugly quilts” are sleeping bags made from recycled fabrics for people who are homeless on the street. Their sole purpose is to help them keep warm until they can be helped or healed by others.
All (young people as well as older folks) are welcome to join Philathea in the church’s undercroft. Bring a sandwich, drinks and dessert will be provided.
Anyone who has cotton fabric scraps, cotton sheets, blankets, or old neckties to donate for this project can leave them in the box in the narthex.
It is wonderful that you are making warm and cozy quilts for people without homes, especially in a cold winter climate such as NH. Hoepfuly you have shelters available to them if they want. But, I must say that no quilt is truly ugly. Old fabrics, sheets, blankets and bits of this and that have always been a part of women and quiltmaking, for thier own homes and others homes. It’s the intent and the action that makes each one beautiful when it is pulled up by someone who is cold. So please call them something else beside ugly, like you, they are beautiful.
